Jacob/Akobe Heads to Padan Aram (Genesis 28)

Welcome back, let’s get right into the story as Akobe heads to Padan Aram. So Akobe left Beersheba and went toward Haran. On his way, he stopped at a certain place and stayed there all night. He took stones there for his pillows and laid down to sleep. And today we stop at hotels.

Listen to this article here:

While sleeping he dreamed, he saw a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of the ladder reached heaven. Then he saw the angels of the Great Creator climbing up and climbing down the ladder. Then at the very top, he saw the Great Spirit standing above, and said,

“I am the Great Creator of Abram your father, and the Great Creator of Isaaka. The land where you are lying down on, I will give it to you and your seed. Your seed will be as the dust of the earth, and you will spread across this land to the west, to the east, to the north, and to the south. And in you and in your seed will all the families of the earth be endowed.”

I’m not sure what this means to the reader, but this is what I (Minister Koko) believe we should get out of Akobe’s dream and vision he received from the Great Anointed Spirit from the Creator. For clarity, Akobe is leaving Beersheba, a location in modern-day Namibia/South Africa somewhere.

He’s on his way to Haran when the sun sets and he decided to take a rest for the night. In his sleep, our King James Bible said the angels of God were going up and down a ladder. At the top was the “Lord.”

Let me help everyone with our lingo here:

God = The Great Creator, the Eternal Father, the Heaven Father of all spirits

Lord = The Great Spirit, Anointed Spirit, the Son

Angels = Messengers

god = rulers of the earth and oftentimes fallen spirits ruling rebellious men

The Great Spirit then informed Akobe that He is the same Creator of Abram and Isaaka and that where Akobe was laying down was being given to him and his seed after him for everlasting possession.

They will become like the dust of the earth and spread out in every direction on the land (Africa today), and the entire earth for that matter. Also, also, he and his seed will be the custodians of the earth in both physical and spiritual matters.

Custodians and Civil Servants of the Earth

What this means is Akobe and his offspring were made the civil servants of all matters, spiritual and physical, on the earth. We must know them and allow them to serve us in both spiritual and physical matters.

This is difficult today because of the image Satan has put in the world and in our minds. Most people do not believe they need assistance from a “man” or “woman” unless they are watching TV a man or woman with a great smile, speaks very eloquently, and has nice physical material items that express success.

We don’t believe we need assistance from people of a lower social, financial, and even ethnic status than we perceive (especially since we’ve been blinded by the adversary). If we came across an elder from a poor African village today, we (especially in the West) would find it hard to accept assistance from him because we have homes, cars, and modern technology. “Thank you, old man, goodbye,” is the thought in our heads or minds. But that could be our Abram today, attempting to enrich you, spiritually.

Are We Supporting the Right People?

Then many of us do not support the children of Akobe, we support whomever people tell us are the children of Akobe. Imagine sending money for a cause, only to realize they were not using the money for the cause, in fact, they financed another cause. Akobe and his seed will spread abroad, west Africa, east Africa, north Africa, and of course South Africa, and from these areas, they will enrich all the families of the earth.

The Great Spirit continued by confirming, “I am with you Akobe, and will keep you in all places you go, and will bring you back again into this land (South Africa); because I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you about.”

Question for us today; was this dream, parable, or account just for Akobe and his journey back to Mesopotamia for his wife or did it lend itself to his seed today who have been spread out into the four corners with the promise of being brought back to “this” land based on everything the Great Spirit spoke to Akobe?

Did you feel that? I did, I hope you did too!

The story continues that Akobe awoke out of his sleep, and thought to himself, Indeed the Great Spirit is in this place and I did not know it, for I was asleep. He was afraid, thinking, ‘How dreadful is this place! this place is none other than the house of the Great Creator, and this is the gate of heaven.

His reaction and comprehension of his dream are pretty amazing and heavy in themselves. Where he was in Beersheba, which would be a location somewhere in Namibia/South Africa today, is the house of the Great Creator and the gate of Heaven.

It reminds me of what the Anointed One spoke to His disciple Peter, in Matthew 16:18. Today, the gates of hell are attempting to build their church there but it will not prevail.

So Akobe rose up early in the morning, took the stone he used for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar. He then anointed the top of the stone pillar with oil and called that place Bethel (before it was called Luz at first).

Akobi vowed declaring, “If the Great Creator will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on so that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the Great Spirit be my Power. And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, will be the Great Creator’s house, and of all that You give me, I will certainly give the tenth to You.

  1. Dear brother
Thank you So much for your article that really blessed me and edifying me spiritually. I am pleased when you placed African countries in this article. Please, therefore don’t forgetting Mozambique, country of cyclones, floods, terrorism, hungry; etc. On the other hand poor christian leadership due the lacking of training ministries.
I have just got back from rural area where l had gone for evangelism, church planting and leadership training being a distance of 500 kms dust-road. A round trip. No bibles, no Sunday school books and other goods for training. It is very sad indeed.
    God bless you

    1. Brother Marcos, good to hear from you. It is time we send some more Bibles; but it is more important for you to stand up and teach the people repentance and baptism.
